Comparing wingspans with our own measuring units is no easy feat! But our third graders did just that! After learning about the wingspan of the whooping crane and the parrot it was our turn to measure our arm span. With the help of butcher paper and markers we traced the body of one of the students and then started measuring the span of his open arms with our own measuring units, Erasers, rulers and our own feet. The consensus? Our elementary school kids are smaller than a crane but larger than a parrot!
