AFS participates in the 4th Greek Media Literacy Week 2020

The American Farm School and the “Dimitris and Aliki Perrotis” library participated in the 4th Greek Media Literacy Week 2020, collaborating with the Peace Journalism Laboratory of the Aristotle University Department of Journalism and Mass Media and the head of the Digital Communication Network Global, Dr. Nikolaos Panagiotou. The events, which took place from the end of October and throughout November, were developed on topics related to Media Literacy and News Literacy, with an emphasis on health issues on the occasion of the pandemic.

The librarians collaborated and participated in the organization of the following seminars:

• November 4 - webinar "Literacy in Health" and talk on "Literacy in health information: the position of libraries" Speakers: Damiana Koutsomicha, AFS & Perrotis College Head Librarian and Anthi Baliou, Librarian of the University Of Macedonia - Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Journalism and Mass Media, Aristotle University.

• November 11, 2020 - webinar "How libraries work during the pandemic" in which Iro Sotiriadou, Perrotis College librarian, described the services and the way the library operates.

• November 18, 2020 - two-hour webinar for the students of the Haseotes Middle School "Young people resist the pandemic of misinformation" and moderators: Nikos Panagiotou, Associate Professor, Department of Journalism and Media, Aristotle University and Chryssa Lazou, English Teacher of Secondary Education & Coordinator of the project "DigiTEENS.gr".

The participation was completed with the event "We stay informationally healthy at the Elementary School of the American Farm School" coordinated by Stavroula Lithoxoidou, AFS elementary school teacher and inspired by her colleagues at the school and Efi Andreadou, Educator, Ph.D., Department of Journalism and Mass Media, Aristotle University, Costas P. Anagnostopoulos, former professor, Polytechnic School, Democritus University of Thrace. The workshop was held in the framework of the Digital Citizen program and the students attended workshops in relation to deception in the media, fake news, and the different understanding of reality depending on the perspective, while developing skills of solidarity, philanthropy and empathy.
