Students from the Secondary Education program continue to impress their peers, teachers, and staff. “Deos” racing (standing for Diversity, Equality, Opportunity and Sustainability), a group of 28 students from the General and Vocational High school qualified for the national final of the F1 in schools 2022 competition. The STEM student competition aims at creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in engineering, Formula 1, science, marketing and technology. Team leaders Maria Ioannou, Vasiliki Sapantzi and Santi Markopoulou, with the support of Physics teacher Nikos Pegiopoulos, keep working hard towards the 2023 world final to be held in Australia.
 
The High School’s 2021 wining racing team “Lupus” recently participated in the world final, which was held in Silverstone, U.K. one year later than originally planned because of the pandemic. With the support of Trustee Frances Manthos, the team consisting of now graduates Maria Ioannou (Hamilton Class of 2026), Konstantinos Markopoulos (Yale Class of 2025) and Thanos Syntrivanis (Pomona College Class of 2025) was among the three finalists in the "sustainability" category!
 
Vocational High School senior Stefanos Vavlas won third place in the international wine tasting competition in Paris organized by the Ministry of Rural Development of France. A group of four students participated in the competition, gaining valuable educational experiences. Stefanos also won third place in the Pan-Hellenic School Judo Championship. At the Haseotes Middle School, 3rd year student Andreana Augusti won the gold medal for Greece at the Pan-European Tae Kwon Do Championship junior category. In fact, Andreana brought back two medals (both as an individual and as a member of the Greek team) receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome by the school community. Second year students Maria-Anastasia Trevla, Dimitrios Paroutis, and Polykarpo-Aris Kalaitzidis won the first prize in the Pan-Hellenic competition of the Hellenic Statistical Authority and represented Greece at the 5th European Statistics Competition and qualified for the second phase of the competition. AFS Lego Bros, a team consisting of Vassilis Aggelakis, George Daillidis, Socrates Kytoudis, Minos Mavrakis, Giannis Sinakos, Fivos Tarasidis, Dimitris Fekas and Stylianos Hadjifotiou, participated in the final phase of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge robotics competition achieving high scores with their excellent performance. Their innovative project proposed solutions for transportation issues. They were honored with the "Breakthrough Award", as a reward for teamwork and morale.
