American Farm School chickpeas: a new product on the market
12th June 2020

The chickpeas produced at the AFS Educational Farm with the active participation of students are now available in the small retail market of Thessaloniki and Athens, as well as the “Thanopoulos” supermarkets in Athens.

The "Amorgos" and "Thivon" varieties were selected for cultivation, due to the high nutritional value and taste characteristics and the fact that they thrive under dry thermal conditions. Innovative and sustainable production systems with respect to the environment and biodiversity are applied to the crop, and it is certified with a quality assurance system according to Agro 2.1-2.2 in Integrated Management. Also, with the help of precision farming machines, variable doses are applied in the field.

The cultivation of chickpeas at the American Farm School is part of the large-scale cultivation laboratories of plant production. All proceeds from the sale of educational farm products support the Scholarship Program for students of the American Farm School and Perrotis College.
