Vocational High School students discuss with experts about fake news
28th November 2018

The dangers and ways to prevent the spread of fake news were at the heart of an informative discussion with students of the first grade of vocational high school as part of their afternoon program. It was the initiative of Student Services, the "Dimitris and Aliki Perrotti" Library, the Europe Direct of the SPMO and the Enrollment and Communication Department.

During the discussion, the students were informed about fake news and its spread. They were given useful and practical advice on ways to avoid it and developed a creative dialogue on spreading fake news.

The students agreed with the opinion of the Dean of Journalism and Mass Media, Nicholas Panagiotou, that fake news is a threat because they lead to an impairment of trust in the institutions of democracy (justice, media), amplify the polarization and eliminate the center and the balance that is necessary for the survival of every society and pose a risk of preventive censorship.
