Laboratory Technician Opening at Perrotis College

Full-time Laboratory Technician position - Description and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will serve as a laboratory technician to assist with the management and operation of the Perrotis College laboratories serving the Environmental Science program. He/she will also be expected to provide assistance to Perrotis College faculty in teaching laboratory sessions and assist in research activities. Successful applicants must have experience documenting their ability to use laboratory instruments/equipment and perform a variety of laboratory procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience in laboratory procedures and in maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (all Perrotis College teaching is done in English)

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience with analytical instruments, including ICP-MS and Elemental analyzer (Dumas)
  • Documented work experience in analytical laboratories
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Time management and record keeping skills
  • Willingness to learn the operation of new instruments/equipment and perform field work

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the management of Perrotis College Laboratories
  • Maintain laboratory and field equipment
  • Operate analytical instruments, standard laboratory and field equipment
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures
  • Order and maintain stock inventory of laboratory chemicals, consumables and resources
    • Maintain safety regulations and procedures

Position Descriptions and Responsibilities

1. Part-time faculty position (50% appointment with the potential to be converted to a full-time position)

The successful applicant will serve as a part-time faculty to assist in the organization of the new Environmental Science program and teach two courses per semester during the fall 2021 and spring 2022. He/she will also be expected to participate in Perrotis College sponsored research and supervise student research projects.

2. Adjunct Lecturer

The successful applicant will serve as part time lecturer during the fall 2021 and/or spring 2022. He/she will teach one course per semester requiring 3-4 contact hours and 1 office hour per week and will be encouraged to participate in Perrotis College sponsored research and supervise student research projects. 

Successful applicants must have a background documenting his/her ability to teach one or more of the following courses:  

Fall 2021

  • Climate Change throughout History
  • Principles of Environmental Hydrology
  • Principles of Ecology

Spring 2022

  • Modeling and Statistics
  • Energy resources management
  • Environmental Microbiology
  • Environmental Chemistry

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Ph.D. degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related fields.
  • Proficiency level of spoken and written English (teaching will take place in English)
  • Teaching experience at a University level

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to design and lead research projects connected to his/her subject area
  • Documented industrial experience
  • Strong motivation and willingness to contribute to the department needs

The Thessaloniki Schools for Experiential Learning operates on the premises of the American Farm School and offers anextended, innovative educational program to young children 4 to 12 years of age. Main axes of the curriculum include experiential environmental innovative programs, enriched Science teaching programs, English language acquisition and technological literacy programs.

Job description:

Each teacher is charged with the following responsibilities:

Job Description

The Recruitment Officer will work closely with the recruitment and admissions team, under the supervision of the Director of Recruitment and will be charged with the following:

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development of goals and objectives for the recruitment office.  Recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance recruitment, selection and admissions
  • Proposes and implements recruitment actions, marketing strategies and special events in the fulfilment of recruitment purposes and enrolment management goals
  • Makes presentations, speaks to groups or individual students and meets with school counsellors, teachers and administrators to promote outreach activities

Participates as a team member in planning, organising and implementing such events (physical or virtual)

  • Compiles reports, statistics and proposals regarding student recruitment programs

Qualifications

Fellowships in Teaching English as a Second Language to Elementary students at the American Farm School

THE SCHOOL

The American Farm School has a K-12 program that extends to adult education, as well as Higher Education through Perrotis College, and serves the community in the past 100 years. Our educational philosophy is based on experiential learning across all educational levels. Our elementary division is a recently established Greek school with 300 students and a strong English program offering daily English language classes.

The English program gives emphasis on literacy skills following a state-of-the-arts writing and reading program. The classes use a CLIL approach to introduce vocabulary, teach grammar, and practice comprehension. We work on projects to further explore the topics we teach and in this way we also promote collaboration among students and their academic skills.

The AFS has traditionally been a teaching institution; learning by doing. Faithful to our teaching and mentoring mission, we are announcing an annual teaching fellowship for recent graduates of English Departments of any public universities in Greece.

THE POSITION

The position requires a 20h weekly commitment, which consists of class time, prep time, and collaboration with the supervisor and colleagues. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to intern with our English teachers in K-6. They will be able to observe, but also actively participate in the teaching workload and lesson planning. They will directly collaborate with the director of the English department on different educational programs and carry administrational duties where and when necessary.

At the end of the fellowship, the candidates will have a better understanding of, but more importantly, attested experience in:

i) experiential education in English language teaching

ii) applying state-of-the-art methodologies in different teaching modes (online & onsite)

iii) researching and using the latest educational online tools

iv) practicing parallel co-teaching and supplementary instruction

REQUIREMENTS (all requirement must be met before considering the application)

  • The successful candidate will have to be a graduate of an English Department (Greek public universities) within the past 3 years of the application.
  • The application should be supported by one recommendation letter, preferably provided by the advisor of your internship (πρακτική).
  • A one-page CV (no picture).
  • A statement of max 2 pages discussing why you believe you are a good fit for this fellowship.

STIPEND    

The fellows will be awarded a monthly stipend of €325 (before taxes) and one meal per day (during onsite lessons only) to support them through their fellowship.
