Perrotis College of Agriculture, Environment and Life Sciences, the higher education branch of the American Farm School (AFS), a not-for-profit US institution with its campus at AFS in Thessaloniki, Greece, is seeking applications for the provost position.
Perrotis College of Agriculture, Environment & Life Sciences, a branch of AFS, was founded as a two year College in 1996 to offer higher education programs for careers in food and agricultural industries. In 2007, the College began offering B.Sc. degrees in Environmental Systems Management, Food Science and Technology, and International Business. Today, the College offers B.Sc. degrees in five disciplines and three M.Sc. degrees and is presently holding “candidacy” status for US accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
As an institution of higher education, Perrotis College provides degree programs that are both research-based and practically oriented, which respond to the public’s social, economic and environmental concerns. Servicing students from rural and urban Greece, Southeastern Europe, the European Union, the United States and worldwide, Perrotis College pursues the following educational goals:
To be a leader in agricultural and life sciences education and applied research in Greece and the Balkans. To be a highly respected and flexible model educational institution in agriculture and life sciences, operating at the forefront of science and technology, producing graduates able to compete internationally, and perpetuating the best values of the U.S. and Greece.
Reports directly to the President, the Provost serves as chief academic officer for the college and is a member of the President’s senior leadership team.
S/he promotes the college externally, as well as internally, fosters a campus climate consistent with the college core values and vision, and is committed to the achievement of the college strategic plan and annual priorities. S/he works with academic deans and faculty to ensure that college academic offerings meet the needs of students and the broader region it serves.
As senior executive of the college, the Provost leads the Strategic Leadership Team and oversees all daily operations. S/he oversees implementation of the academic plan and promotes academic excellence through collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork with academic deans, faculty, staff, and actively seeks student input as appropriate.
Understands and is committed to the tri-partite mission of a modern and innovative college of agriculture, environment, and life sciences;
Ishighly committed to an international, diverse student body and with strong connections with US academic institutions;
Ensures that necessary infrastructure and human resources provide sufficient support for growth of the college enrollment and areas of studies;
Assigns priorities leading the college towards pursuit of its mission and a successful NECHE accreditation;
Advocates cultural and organizational change within the college, fostering a reflective organization adaptable to change;
Integrates, in collaboration with AFS management, the Farm as a learning and research laboratory for undergraduate and graduate studies;
Works with faculty, administrators, and staff to provide a quality learning environment facilitating innovating teaching and technological infrastructures;
Collaborates with the Institutional Student Services Center, which provides assistance, consultation and support with an effective array of student support services;
Fosters a campus climate that is consistent with Perrotis core values and promotes open communication avenues throughout campus and college;
Serves as an active participant and spokesperson for Perrotis offering in Agriculture, Environment and Life Sciences with business, educational, and community organizations;
Serves or chairs and supports participation in governing councils or committees;
Works collaboratively with Campus Directors and the President to ensure a college-wide outlook and coordinates campus support services to ensure institutional safety and growth;
Assures adherence to college policies and procedures and assumes compliance with rules, regulations, and laws of Greece and accrediting agencies;
Serves as college liaison for development of new facilities, necessary renovation, and technological initiatives;
Participates in recruitment, enrollment planning, and scheduling processes;
Leads College development efforts to fund programs and projects, and cooperates with AFS Development Office as appropriate; and
works with the Institutional Financial Services Office, regarding development and management of the college budget, related annual priorities, and the overall AFS organization.
