Greek Summer goes online!
12th February 2021

After 50 years of hosting Americans aged 15-17 in Greece, Greek Summer has decided to offer a virtual program this summer. This decision is the result of the continued uncertainty surrounding travel and the COVID-19 pandemic and the school’s commitment to protect the AFS community as well as program participants.   The two-week-long virtual program will feature many of the most exciting elements of the in-person itinerary, allowing students to experience the glory of Greece stateside.

Care has been taken to retain many core elements of the in-person program, such as community service, interactions with host families, and sessions teaching elements of Greek culture and language.   Set to run on weekdays from June 28 to July 10, the program features sessions that are educational, fun and engaging, including Greek dance lessons, cooking sessions and virtual tours.   Program participants will also assemble teams to create group projects focused on an aspect of Greek life and culture.

Greek Summer has been described as a life-changing experience by its participants.  Whether returning to the roots of their Greek ancestors or discovering the wealth of beauty our country offers for the first time, Greek Summer alums say the program experience lasts a lifetime.  Additionally, program alums become more competitive college applicants through the program, displaying intercultural skills, community service, teamwork, and openness to new experiences – all characteristics highly sought after by US institutions.
