Digi-Meat Project - Kick-off Meeting
23rd June 2023

The kick-off meeting of the Digi-Meat project was successfully completed on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Digi-Meat is a new collaboration that aims to utilize technology to create added value to the meat produced by the rare Greek Vrachikeratiki breed.

The project is financed by MEASURE 16 COOPERATION: Rural Development Program 2014 – 2020, SUB-MEASURE 16.1 – 16.2 “ESTABLISHMENT AND FUNCTIONING OF BUSINESS GROUPS OF THE EUROPEAN INNOVATION PARTNERSHIP FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY IAS".

The coordinating partner of the project is the American College of Agriculture. The corporate structure of Digi-Meat is completed by Green Projects, Agromet, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki - Laboratory of Grassland Ecology of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment, the company ena Development Consultants, the company APOSTOLOS PAPADOPOULOS MEAT COMPANY and Livestock Units from the area of Xanthi and Drama.

The main objective of Digi-Meat is the exploitation of the indigenous tribes which are an integral cultural capital for the region and a powerful source of income for the mountainous regions.

To achieve the above goal, innovative online b2b applications will be used, which will connect local breeders with specialty food markets throughout Greece. Through Digi-Meat, these markets will be supplied with high added value, local identity and limited supply of free-range meats. Digitanimal technology collars will be used to manage the herds throughout their life.

With the combined use of the KalaΘos application, it will become possible to provide information to all those involved in the supply chain regarding the characteristics of the animals (breed, breeding process) the farms / breeding points (exact determination of the location on the Google maps platform, etc.) and the local character and quality of the meat will be documented.

Finally, through consumption, the sustainability of the community is expected to be strengthened (ethical consumption).

Digital technologies related to herd management and traceability will be utilized in order to integrate the meat of the indigenous tribe into the gastronomic identity of Xanthi and also to promote it in the gourmet restaurants of Athens and Thessaloniki.

Marketing and Logistics processes such as batch creation, detailed and transparent pricing, availability updates, order placement, shipment grouping, transport condition control, and full traceability using international standards will be used to systematically approach the target audience of restaurateurs/chefs in Xanthi , Athens and Thessaloniki.

The project partners renewed their appointment for the next scheduled meeting in July 2023.

The meeting of Digi-Meat partners was hosted at #enahub, a meeting point for people and ideas from every sector, with the common goal of development in education, economy and entrepreneurship.
