EVA- European evaluation network for lettuce
19th October 2020

The American Farm School has joined the European Lettuce Evaluation Network (EVA). Three departments of the School, the Strategic Project Management Office, Perrotis College and the Department of Plant Production of the Educational Farm collaborate for the implementation and completion of this project.

The EVA network includes important stakeholders of the agrofood sector, seed-producing companies such as e.g. ISI Cementi (Italy), Gautier Semences (France), Sativa Rheinau AG (Switzerland), Zollinger seeds (Switzerland), Vilmorin (France), seed banks and knowledge centers such as Nordgen (Sweden) and the European Catalog of Plant Genetic Resources EURISCO. All actions are coordinated by the ECPGR Secretariat (European Cooperative Program for Plant Genetic Resources).

181 varieties of lettuce, which are not available on the market, are tested and evaluated at the School’s premises.

The contribution of the American Farm School will be to evaluate various characteristics of the biotypes that will be tested. The information that will be collected will concern both botanical characteristics (pure science) and commercial (real economy).
