Approval of project METRO 16

The Mountain Meat project with project code Μ16ΣΥΝ2-00068 and business plan title "Management of mountain pastures for the utilization of the rich flora of the prefectures of Drama and Xanthi and the production of meat products of high added value" was approved and is being implemented in the context of Action 2 of Sub-Measures 16.1 - 16.2 "Establishment and operation of Operational Groups of the European Innovation Partnership for the productivity and sustainability of agriculture" of the Rural Development Program (RDP) 2014 – 2020. The project has a duration of 24 months.
 
Mountain Meat's goals are:
  • The exploitation of the indigenous tribes that are an integral cultural capital for the region and a powerful source of income for the mountainous regions
  • The exploitation and conservation of the rare red breed that tends to decline
  • The utilization of local aromatic plants as food through grazing
  • The creation of a value-added product
The project is implemented by the coordinator of the Innovation and Impact HUB project of the American Farm School in collaboration with Agromet, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, ENA Development Consultants, Livestock Cooperative of Mykis and with livestock farmers Symeon Zeukidis, Olga Keyvanidou, Eleftherios Tsorbatzidis and Nikolaos Tsorbatzidis.
