Our Grade 4 students make a DNA Helix out of gummy bears, pipe cleaners and toothpicks! (STEM)
27th September 2017

Where is DNA found? From the tiniest bug, to the tallest oak tree, and largest mammal, DNA certainly gets around! With the help of Ms Nadia (Stem Coordinator), we first watched a presentation on Prezi about DNA and the DNA Helix. Then we received two envelopes with the cut out characteristics of a blond, green eyed woman and a dark featured man which we combined to create their child. We further watched a video about how DNA was extracted from a fossilized mosquito who had bitten a dinosaur millions of years ago. Our last task was to build a DNA Helix which we had to decode out of pipe cleaners, gummy bears and toothpicks!!
