Walking Water
20th March 2017

Using cups, water, food coloring, kitchen towel and water we demonstrated how water gets absorbed and travels through porous surfaces just like in nature. With this simple experimnet we saw just how water moves against gravity and travels up by a process called capillary action with the gaps in the kitchen towel acting like tubes, pulling the water upwards. Another example of this process is where water travels upward from the roots of a plant to the leaves. The extra bonus was watching the colors mix to a really impressive end result!
