This year, our Grade 5 students embarked on an extraordinary journey, merging the realms of archaeology, paleontology, and astronomy. They delved deep into the past and reached for the stars, engaging in a series of cross-curriculum activities that brought history and the universe to life.
Our young learners turned into intrepid explorers as they made fascinating discoveries in archaeology and paleontology. They didn't just read about ancient times, they actively experienced what it's like to uncover the secrets of the past. Their inquisitive minds led them to a remarkable find – the Cuneiform script, one of the earliest forms of writing.
Diving deeper into the ancient world, students created their clay cuneiform pendants. This hands-on activity was not only an exercise in creativity but also a window into understanding ancient communication. They learned how ancient civilizations used wedge-shaped marks on clay to record their stories, and our students revived this age-old practice in their way.
The adventure didn't stop in the past. Mr. Patrick Lacourrege, our resident astronomy enthusiast, guided the students through the cosmos. They explored constellations like The Big and Little Dipper, Orion, and Monoceros, bringing these star patterns closer to home. In a dazzling display of STEAM education, our students crafted their interpretations of constellations. This activity not only ignited their imaginations but also deepened their understanding of astronomy. They learned about the stars and the stories behind them, making the night sky a familiar and fascinating canvas.
With this adventure our students did not just learn facts about those subjects, they immersed themselves in each subject, gaining a deeper and more meaningful understanding.
