Our Priorities

Gifts to the Annual Fund support everything the School is and does. They provide deserving students with needed scholarships; scientific equipment for laboratories; seeds, tools and animal feed for the practical program on the campus farm; contemporary technology for the library; utilities for the classrooms, residence halls and farm -- and so much more.

You may also wish to designate your gift toward one of our current priorities:

Scholarships

Opening our doors to the brightest, most motivated young men and women from throughout Greece benefits our communities, the country and the world at large. An AFS education would be out of reach for the majority of our students without our Scholarship Program.  Every deserving student in the High School and Perrotis College receives a scholarship covering at least 50% of the cost of his/her education. We seek to meet the needs of students facing financial hardship with additional financial aid.

General Scholarship Fund. Gifts of any size support our scholarship program for low-income, promising students.

President’s Scholarships are merit-based awards to high achieving students entering the High School. They are a way to encourage students with exceptional talent to fulfill their potential at the American Farm School. Our President’s Scholars have gone on to excel both in and out of the classroom.  Gifts of any size may be designated to the President’s Scholarship Fund, while a gift of $14,000 per year enables a donor to name a President’s Scholarship, for which a three year commitment is asked.

Named Annual Scholarships may be established in your name, the name of your company, or in honor of someone special to you by pledging annual gifts of $7,000 or more for a three-year period to cover half of a student’s educational cost.  All donors of named scholarships receive an annual report on the recipient’s progress.

Endowed Scholarships carry the donor-named fund in perpetuity and offer options for shaping the criteria of the scholarship. Only the income -- never the principal -- is spent for the purposes specified by the donor. An endowed scholarship may be established in your lifetime or through an estate gift with a minimum gift of $250,000.

Academic Programs

You may choose to designate your gift in support of a particular academic division or program:

Faculty
Great faculty members inspire students.   They open their minds to new possibilities. They advance their disciplines, while also helping students make connections across the curriculum.  They create and shape the Learn by Doing experiences that are the hallmark of an AFS education.

Your gift in support of Faculty may establish an endowed position, help a faculty member attend professional training or conferences, or advance their research.
Facilities

Where students learn affect how they learn. Thanks to our donors, AFS’ beautiful, 350-acre campus is a productive, living learning environment designed for students to thrive and grow.

The generosity of donors has transformed our campus in recent years.  New laboratories, our Student Services Center, newly furnished classrooms, educational dairy, greenhouses, athletic facilities and more continue to enhance the AFS experience.  Gifts for capital projects make an enormous impact, one that is multiplied through the years to affect new generations of students.

And it is not only the buildings that contribute to our distinctive campus.  Some of the School’s most cherished assets – and teaching tools -- include its century-old olive trees, fertile pomegranate orchard, wildflower gardens that nourish our honey bees, aromatic herb plots with medicinal applications, horticultural trails, pine forests and so much more.

We welcome gifts to support capital projects, maintain our existing physical plant and care for our living assets. Naming opportunities abound!

Current facility funding priorities include:

  • Aliki Perrotis Educational Center at Perrotis College
  • Seth Frank Hall of Graduate Studies
  • Library renovation: Serving all academic divisions, the Library was last remodeled 15 years ago when libraries served student needs in a far different way than technology and collaborative, project-based learning now demands.  Located in historic Princeton Hall, the planned 2017 renovation includes creating flexible spaces to encourage collaborative learning and research, and accommodate new information technologies and their use.
  • Athletic facilities
Endowment

By making a gift to the endowment, you help safeguard the School’s finances through changing economic times. Interest earned on endowment funds is used in perpetuity to support the School’s mission.

Your endowment gift may be designated to the General Endowment or the Perrotis College Endowment.  Existing endowment funds include those for operations, scholarships, faculty support, research, and facilities maintenance.
