Experiential Learning

The additional experiential learning program (Practical Training) offered by EPAL is a unique program in Greece. This type of education is offered only at the American Farm School and is compulsory for all students in the Vocational High School. The program operates in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and upon completion of their studies students are awarded a relevant certificate.

The purpose of the additional experiential education is to enrich the morning educational program outlined by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs (theoretical and workshop learning) with practical, hands-on experience.  This is accomplished through work in small groups on the educational farm and in the School’s practical facilities, including those used for food technology, plant production, farm machinery and farm maintenance, olive grove, vegetable gardens, gardens, greenhouses, byre, chicken houses, dairy farm, cheese making, apiculture, and snail breeding.

The program has a separate syllabus which is consistently updated and enriched so as to meet the demands of modern agriculture and the agri-food sector.  The program consists of:

  • Plant production (finished production, organic production, etc.)
  • Food technology
  • Viticulture
  • Winemaking technology

  • Snail breeding

  • Chicken breeding
