The real Greece, the better you
For high school students seeking a meaningful experience abroad
Greek Summer helps students develop the cross cultural skills, empathy and the confidence to learn and thrive in new environments. The homestay is the program’s core experience. Participants live as members of a rural family where they work together to complete a needed community service project. Preparation for village life includes an introduction to the Greek language, local traditions, current issues and more.
The “Big Trip” reveals Greece’s amazing diversity while participants explore cultural and historic sites throughout the country. Eco-adventures in breath-taking settings include trekking Mt. Olympus, sailing pristine bays, and discovering island communities. Hands-on activities on the host campus of the American Farm School give students an understanding of sustainable food systems and the importance of food and agriculture to the culture and economy of the region. Through independent investigation -- and newly acquired interviewing and observation skills -- participants choose to explore one topic of the culture in greater depth.
Greek Summer 2017 dates are June 29 to July 30. Dates and deadlines are subject to change. There is a rolling admissions process so early application is recommended. Students aged 15-18 are eligible.
