Kalimera Ellada (31/3/2008)
In 1986 George and Lydia Legakis "founded" the Society for the Preservation of the Traditional Fasolada. Each country has its national dish: Italy has spaghetti, France onion soup, Germany potatoes with sausage; Russia piroshki, China rice, etc. In Greece, we have fasolada.
The Society's objective was to determine which precisely is the perfect fasolada and to invite all those who claim they make the best fasolada to demonstrate their ability by entering the Fasolada Competition.
The Society believes that its tireless and continued efforts will help define which is the authentic Greek fasolada and preserve this legendary and patriotic dish. The noble fasolada has historically been the backbone and "artillery" of the heroic and glorious Greek army.
The American Farm School continues the Fasolada Competition as in the past, with zest, fun and good humor. This year's winner was none other than the American Farm School's Dr. Evangelos Vergos, Director of the Lifelong Learning Department and the Livestock Management Pathway Coordinator at Perrotis College. "Kalimera Ellada" or Goodmorning Greece interviewed Vergos to find out more about his winning recipe. Joining Dr. Vergos for the live broadcast are Fasolada Competition co-founder Lydia Legakis, Perrotis College student Pantelis Chantzaras, and ANT1 correspondent Irini Gkeli.
