The American Farm School’s Poultry unit produces and markets Omega-3 and standard eggs, turkeys, broilers and day-old chicks. As with all departments of the Demonstration and Educational Farm, students from the School’s secondary, tertiary and adult learning divisions participate in every aspect of the poultry operation -- from feeding, housing, health care and production to packaging and sales. The Poultry unit has an outstanding record in applied research and product development on joint projects with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the ATEI of Thessaloniki, and other international academic and industry partners. The ongoing development of the Omega-3 egg is currently the major research focus.
All animal feed used in the Poultry unit is tested internally and by independent laboratories and is certified annually with the Greenpeace “Green Rating” indicating the feed is 100% free of GMOs.
The Poultry unit is a member of the World Poultry Science Association (www.wpsa.com). Staff members are active in the association’s Steering Committee on Education and Training.
