Circulation Policy
All AFS staff, faculties, Perrotis College and Lyceum students, residents, as well as AFS alumni, are entitled to borrow Library materials. Guest users are not entitled to borrow Library materials, but are encouraged to check with Library staff for other privileges available to them in the Library service.
The Library circulation policy is as follows:
Reference Books (R) do not comprise a part of the collection that is made available for full circulation. These materials remain in the library and are used only on the premises. |
The Circulating Collection materials are comprised of books that may be borrowed from the Library. Up to three items from this collection may be borrowed for a period of no more that two weeks. Renewals depend on timely return and availability. |
The Reserve Collection includes the Perrotis College required readings, which may be borrowed for Library in-house use only. Users should address requests for books and materials on Reserve to the service desk. |
Perrotis College faculty may borrow one item from the Reserve Collection for weekend use only. |
Up to three back issues of magazines may be borrowed for no more than one week. The most recent issue of a periodical received by the Library may be used only on the premises. | Overdue Penalties
If a student has an overdue book, he/she will lose borrowing privileges for the corresponding period of time after the book has been returned (e.g. a student who returns a book one week late will lose his or her borrowing privileges for one week beginning from the date the books was returned). |
In the event that a book is more than one month overdue, the library will consider it lost, and will charge the student for the cost of ordering a new book. |
Overdue books that have been requested by others: Students who have overdue books and have been notified that a particular title has been requested by someone else, have 24 hours to return the book. After that time the student will be charged 5 € per day, until the book is returned. Students who return books without clearing their accounts will be referred to the Perrotis College or Lyceum administration, as appropriate. |
Students who return books and/or other Library materials that have been damaged will be charged for the cost of replacing them, along with processing fees. | Photocopying and Printing Policy
Photocopying: There is one black & white photocopier in the Library, available for patron use. A card-feeder is attached to this machine, which operates with a photocopy card.
Each photocopy card is good for 100 photocopies, costs 3 € and may be purchased at the Library’s Circulation Desk. |
The individual photocopying charge is 0,05 € per page. | Printing: There is one black & white laser printer in the Library available for patron use.
Each printout costs 0,05 € per page. | NOTE: Patrons are requested to print only essential material from Internet sources.
Gifts Policy
Materials added to the Library collections are, primarily, acquired by way of purchase, while gifts and bequests of collections are a welcome supplementary component of collection development. Proper application of the Library’s collection development report goals make it inevitable that only a small percentage of the gifts received will ultimately be added to the collection.
Prior to accepting a gift collection it is necessary that librarians learn as much as possible about the content and size of the donation. In the event that the offered materials do not appear to be appropriate for the collection, as defined in the DAPL collection development policy, other potential recipients should be suggested to the donor.
In the event that the DAPL accepts a book donation, the following points will be made clear to the donor:
It is probable that all of the donated materials will not be added to the collection; |
The donor will authorize the DAPL, in writing, to attempt to donate unneeded items to other libraries; |
The donated collection will not be kept together on the shelves but will be distributed throughout the collection, in accordance with the Library’s classification criteria; |
The donor shall not require the DAPL to post a name sign identifying the donor. | Similarly, the DAPL will:
Acknowledge, in writing, receipt of all bequests, listing types and numbers of materials donated; |
Express its appreciation in a letter signed by the head librarian. In the event that the donor is an AFS trustee, a political personality, or a high-ranking public official, it is recommended that the AFS president sign the letter of appreciation. | Provide copies of all communications with donors to the office of Institutional Advancement.
