Program Description
The Summer International Program (SIP) is, as the name implies, a truly international experience geared toward college and university students who want to experience the pastoral environment of the American Farm School and the culture and hospitality of Greece, while gaining university credit in subject areas connected to their academic and professional pursuits and, for a select few, working on the AFS demonstration farm.
Full semester credit is awarded for specific courses through the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), a branch of the University of Wales, one of the oldest and most respected higher education institutions in the UK, and Perrotis College’s EU validating institution.
Another key aspect of SIP involves introducing participants to various aspects of Greek culture. Through the Greek Culture class, which all participants take, students spend most weekday afternoons learning Greek dance, cuisine, language and history or venturing into Thessaloniki in the company of College staff to visit museums and markets, and attend cultural events. Participants also go on weekend excursions to Mount Olympus and Meteora, as well as to archaeological sites and the beaches of Halkidiki.
During their spare time, participants also have the opportunity to pursue their own interests, often traveling to Athens or the islands, sampling Thessaloniki's vibrant nightlife, or simply relaxing on one of the nearby beaches.
