The American Farm School, represented by the Dean of the School of Professional Educational Dr. Evangelos Vergos, participated in the international conference “Rail, Road, River Connectivity to the EU via the Balkan Region" held in Athens. The focus of the conference was the role of the Balkan and Black Sea countries in the free movement of humans, goods and knowledge in line with international standards.
Dr. Vergos’ presentation “The Stewards of the Land” referred to the ways in which community residents should change their habits to make a positive contribution to the development of the Balkan and Black Sea regions and improve their lives using available resources (such as Corporate Social Responsibility).
He also presented two study cases, the Hani I Elezit (LAB) and the McCain Potato Production, and made reference to the agriculture evolution that either leads to the development of new products, and/or to the establishment of pretentious emerging markets. To that effect, those engaged in primary production must become competitive and sustainable entrepreneurs for producing high value products that would eventually lead to bio-secure food production. Alongside, they shall preserve the environment as such in order to inherit it intact over to next generations.
