English Language Teaching

English language acquisition is one of the main priorities of our program.

While respecting the mandates of the Greek Ministry of Education, the School supplements the English language program by providing additional hours of instruction:

  • Grades 1-4 receive 5 hours per week
  • Grades 5-6 receive 6 hours per week

The Elementary School comprises a designated English Department with a mandate to develop a curriculum which effectively integrates educational games, songs, reading, role play, and other experiential activities into the students’ program. This holistic approach to language instruction is carried out by teaching staff who, in addition to being native speakers, are highly qualified educators who systematically participate in professional training and development, to ensure the application of the most contemporary pedagogical methods.

In the classroom, our teachers are assisted by interns – recent graduates of American universities who spend a year or more as teachers’ aides.

Supplementary options for honing English skills are also available to our students, as they can take part in after-school clubs and extra-curricular activities where the primary language is English. Finally, we prepare our students for the British Council exams:

  • Grades 2, 3, & 4: Starters, Movers and Flyers
  • Grades 5 & 6: KET PET exams
  • Levels A2 and B1 for the CEFR
